At Alexander Youth Network, we are deeply committed to creating nurturing and therapeutic environments for the children we serve. Recently, we had the opportunity to celebrate a heartfelt moment in our Charlotte Day Treatment program.
In recognition of her unwavering dedication and profound impact on our Day Treatment Program, we have officially renamed our Charlotte Day Treatment garden to “Hart Haven” to celebrate Fran Hart, a dedicated and cherished member of our Alexander staff. Hart Haven stands as a testament to Fran’s loyalty, passion, and love for our Day Treatment program.
Fran has been an employee at Alexander Youth Network since 1992, and her commitment to our mission is unmatched. Despite her busy schedule, Fran always makes time to engage in one of her favorite activities: gardening with the children. Her hands-on approach and genuine care have left a mark on all who have had the pleasure of working with her.
“It’s beautiful to see something start so small and then nurturing it to grow into something beautiful and sometimes even edible,” Fran said about working in the garden. “I love to watch things grow, so seeing the journey of plants grow from nothing into something is the most rewarding part.”
Hart Haven is not just a garden; it is a sanctuary for relaxation, meditation, and healing. Every element within this haven, from the plants and vegetables to the stepping stones and sand, has been thoughtfully placed to create an environment of harmony, tranquility, and balance. Gardening is one of our many therapeutic activities that can help children by reducing stress, fostering a sense of responsibility, and providing a peaceful space for self-reflection and emotional expression.
“When the children work in the garden, it allows them to take ownership of it and be proud of the things they have nurtured,” Fran shared about the benefits of gardening. “I think it has a lasting impact on them because it helps them learn responsibility and gives them something to care about that does not judge them or want anything from them emotionally.”
We are deeply grateful to Fran for her steadfast devotion to Alexander. Her contributions have enriched our Day Treatment Program and have positively impacted the lives of countless children. Fran, we value your commitment and are forever thankful for the love and care you bring to our Alexander and Day Treatment family.
